The Schweizerische Vogelwarte Sempach is a non-profit foundation for ornithology and bird protection. It monitors the native birdlife, researches its way of life, and advocates for threatened birdlife. It cares for injured and orphaned birds, informs and advises the population, and operates a visitor center in Sempach. The Vogelwarte employs over 200 employees in all parts of the country. Populations of African-Eurasian migratory birds are increasingly declining. To reverse this alarming trend, effective international protection measures are required along the entire migration routes. With the new International Bird Protection framework program, the Schweizerische Vogelwarte is tackling this global challenge. For the purpose of strengthening the team, we are looking for, starting from 1 January 2027 or by arrangement, a Specialist Capacity Development - Africa (40-60%) Your tasks You play a central role in building and strengthening capacities for nature and species conservation in Africa. To this end, you develop learning and training materials, support partner organizations, promote knowledge exchange, and contribute to translating scientific findings into effective nature conservation measures along the African-Eurasian migration routes. Development, coordination, and implementation of capacity development and awareness-raising measures, including training, workshops, webinars, learning materials, practical aids, and decision-making bases, to strengthen partner organizations in promoting bird protection and awareness of nature. Promoting the application and implementation of training materials and nature conservation approaches through the establishment and maintenance of strong and strategic partnerships with organizations, institutions, professionals, and networks in Africa. Collaboration on reports, communication materials, funding applications, and scientific publications, as well as close cooperation with colleagues to support the program goals. Your profile University degree in one of these fields: environmental sciences, conservation biology, international cooperation, pedagogy, social sciences, or a related field. Proven experience in the areas of capacity development, education and further training, moderation, or environmental education in an international context. Ability to develop and implement training programs and learning materials, as well as to prepare scientific and technical content in a practical manner for different target groups. Experience in working with partner organizations in Africa; an existing professional network is an advantage. Knowledge in the field of bird protection and Citizen Science; familiarity with the avifauna of Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe is an advantage. Strong moderation, communication, didactic, networking, and intercultural competencies, as well as enjoyment in working with various stakeholders. Very good English and French skills; other languages, especially German, are an advantage.
