Chief Physician in internal medicine for orthopedic surgery - 100%

As a chief physician holding the specialist title in general internal medicine, you will join the perioperative medicine team of the Service de chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologie de l’appareil moteur. You will contribute to the global medical management of patients hospitalized in the different units of the service.

In close collaboration with the surgical, anesthesiological, nursing teams and other professionals involved, you will ensure the evaluation, optimization and follow-up of patients presenting with comorbidities or perioperative medical issues.

Your clinical activity includes notably preoperative medical evaluation, optimization of acute and chronic pathologies likely to influence surgical risk or recovery, as well as the prevention, identification and management of postoperative complications. You will participate in interdisciplinary visits and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in connection with the assistant physicians as well as the relevant teams.

You will supervise the intern doctors in their daily activity, accompany them in their clinical reasoning and actively contribute to their training. You will ensure the quality of medical documentation, the continuity of care and the coordination of the hospital pathway of the patients.

Thanks to your clinical sense, your ability to prioritize and your autonomy, you manage varied, sometimes complex, situations in a demanding and interdisciplinary hospital environment. You maintain clear and constructive communication with the medical care teams, the patients as well as their relatives.

You finally participate in the development and structuring of the perioperative medicine activity in orthopedics, as well as in projects for quality improvement, teaching and, depending on opportunities, clinical research.

The activity is organized mainly from Monday to Friday, according to the needs and functioning of the service.

You hold the federal diploma of physician or have training deemed equivalent by the Commission des professions médicales of the Office fédéral de la santé publique (MEBEKO).

You hold an FMH title in general internal medicine or you have a title deemed equivalent recognized by MEBEKO and are in possession of the cantonal right of practice or are able to obtain it before your entry into office with the cantonal physician of Geneva.

You justify confirmed experience in internal medicine allowing you to be autonomous. Your previous experience is ideally carried out in a university environment with a high volume of activity.

For non-French speaking persons, the C1 French level in spoken and written tests is required.

You have excellent communication skills in a multidisciplinary team and with patients, you are a dynamic, flexible, committed person and demonstrate discretion. Furthermore, you have demonstrated strong capacities for adaptation.

You can work both in day shifts, as well as night and weekend shifts.

Within this department, the Service de chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologie de l'appareil moteur (https://www.hug.ch/orthopedie) constitutes the most important center of this type in Switzerland. It offers cutting-edge care covering all fields of reconstructive orthopedic surgery and adult traumatology, including complex and highly specialized situations. The service performs more than 6’500 surgical interventions each year and ensures approximately 45’000 consultations. It relies on a multidisciplinary approach, high-level infrastructure and strong involvement in university teaching and clinical research.
